Casual Sailing

The BSA owns 3 "Seabord" Boats that are ideal for sailing in the Mumbai / Mandwa harbour. Our boats Snipe, Kittywake2 and Kingfisher are well maintained and need to be pre booked for sailing. The sailing activities of the Association are conducted along with The Royal Bombay Yacht Club (RBYC) and the Colaba Sailing Club (CSC) who are our sister clubs. The Joint Sailing Committee is chaired by the RBYC Commodore and comprises of qualified helms and boat owners. The BSA representative sits on this Committee. It is this Committee that mainly guides the sailing activities of the 3 clubs.

The racing and cruising activities are mostly initiated at Mumbai from the RBYC premises to which the BSA members have access.

Racing and Regattas

Should you be inclined to try your hand at racing, not a problem. The Sailing Season inagurates with the Kersi Naoroji Trophy followed by The Gammon Cup and The JJ Memorial Cup during the year - which are some of the flagship Regattas of the BSA. These races ( apart fromthe inagural race of the season) involve racing to Mandwa on Saturday afternoon, staying overnight at the BSA properties where there is optional catered dinner party and race back Sunday afternoon. Racing improves your sailing skills and thats where you pick up the ropes(literally). Sign up for a regatta and  land up the Sailing Jetty Club at the specified hour, dressed in appropriate gear which is shorts, T shirt, sneakers, cap, sun glasses (optional) and water.

Junior Sailing

In association with the RBYC , for  children of  8 years and above, there is a specially tailored sailing program. It is called the Junior Sailing Program which consists of Optimist and Laser Sailing under the supervision of reputed coaches . This is an annual coaching program which starts with an optimist, a boat especially designed for children between the ages of 8 to 15. This program will do wonders for your child and is highly recommended. You need to fulfil only one prerequisite. The child must know how to swim with relatively decent fitness. The club is equipped with class legal training grade Optimist and Laser class boats ( ILCA). The program is a weekend class form 1pm to 6pm approx. The BSA is also a popular option for a "Full week" camp in which the sailors and coaches indulge in advance training, team building and bonding.
